Current Newsletter
Mrs. Rice’s Newsletter ~ April 13th
Here is a basic guideline of what I’ll be doing this week, and what I will expect from your child. This is just an outline; I will send e-mails and Seesaw videos describing exactly what I would like your child to do.
I will assign “activities” all this week for your children to watch and/or do on Seesaw. I am sending an announcement on Seesaw explaining how to find the activities each day. On the right side of the screen on Seesaw (just above the middle of the screen), is a little rectangle that says “activities” (there is also one that says, “inbox”). When a new activity has been assigned, a red number will appear in that box. Click the box to see the new activity(ies). The activities will often involve a video to watch, but each activity has written and audio directions telling what your child needs to do. Sometimes it is just watch a video, but sometimes they need to add a response of some kind, by clicking the green + “add response” button. It will make sense when you see it, and if it doesn’t, don’t panic, call or e-mail me (you can call my work number), and I’ll talk you through it. This week is a learning week, both learning new academic content, but also learning more about Seesaw, and the app Epic!
Monday: I will introduce our new letter and sound and new high frequency words, read a story, and show my weekend news. I’ll expect students do submit their weekend news by Tuesday, just like they did last week, by writing in their journals, taking a picture of their writing in Seesaw, and then record their voices reading what they wrote.
Tuesday: I will do more reading activities, ask students to show their short /o/ sound object, have them do the Oo page in their handwriting books, and assign a book from Epic! to listen to.
Wednesday: I will have kids do a high frequency word activity, read a book to me (I’ll show them which one), and work on partners of 10 in math.
Thursday: I will have kids practice reading skills, show me some knowledge about dinosaurs, and do some addition in math.
Friday: Students should practice more reading skills, and we’ll review the cube and sphere in math. I will talk about dinosaur extinction.
Learning: Our new letter is “o” with the short /o/ sound like “odd”. The new high frequency words are “make”, “play”, “them”, and “say”.
/o/ Sound Objects: We are working on the short /o/ sound as in “octopus” (not the long /o_e/ sound like “over”). Have your child find something small to share that begins with the short /o/. Students can make a video on Seesaw to show their short /o/ object, tell its name, and talk a little about it.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. My e-mail address is [email protected] My phone number is 503-431-4747. Do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Suzanne
